It was my privilege to be a guest on Melody Campbell, The Small Business Guru’s Blog Talk Radio Show, Get More Business. The listeners were great – peppering me with questions.
Listen to the show and then check out my answers to some questions that might not have been answered on the show due to time constraints.
Question: How does one figure out which theme to choose?
Choosing a great theme is a personal as well as professional decision. There is no one right or wrong theme. The theme should reflect your personality and your business. There are themes that are better for SEO – like having the column(s) on the right but it’s really a matter of your choice. A great place to look for themes is: http://WordPress.org/extend/themes
Question: Can you recomend a theme for a simple membership site?
For a membership site it isn’t so much a matter of a theme – almost any will work – it’s the plugin you get to run the membership site that is important. I use and recommend http://www.wpwmembers.com. It is a well-written plugin that manages different levels, individual members, intergrates with several autoresponders, and is just a great membership plugin. It isn’t free, but it does not cost much considering everything it does.
Question: When you are saying email capture, do you mean an opt in? Or something else?
Yes – opt-in. If you here ‘squeeze page, ‘opt-in’, ‘email capture’, they all mean the same thing.
Question: I need tips on how to keep up with creating blog posts. There are so many things that are taking up my time and it is challenging to be consistent in posting.
Try writing down ideas as they come to you. Then when you have some time, craft some posts in advance and have them publish over the next x number of days. To write in advance, look in the editor on the right side under Publish. You sill see a calendar icon. Click on edit next to that icon and you will see a ‘drop-down’ with the month, day, year, and time. You can edit any of those fields to anything you want. The trick is to click on publish after you set the date/time. The post will NOT go on your blog immediately but will go into a ‘queue’ to appear on the date and time you set.
