How do you make your WordPress Blog work for you?
1. Write great posts! Always give your readers content they can use. Make each post ultra specific and speak directly to them – their problems, their pain – and give them a solution.
2. Don’t sell in a blog post. Write about your product – talk about it – and at the end give a call to action that send them to a separate page in your blog – your sales page where they have a choice – buy or leave.
3. Market your blog. It isn’t build it and they will come. You must get the word out about it. Think of your blog as the hub of a wheel. Everything radiates out and comes back to your blog. Think about what will be at the end of the ‘spokes’. Some suggestions – articles, tweets, Facebook, social bookmarking, the Share This plugin for WordPress. Many of these marketing tasks can be automated so don’t be overwhelmed.
4. Post regularly. Be consistent in posting. You can’t post to your blog once a month and expect it to gain any traction. You must be diligent and post regularly to build your community.
5. Encourage comments. Always encourage your community to get involved. A call to action at the end of a post can be a call for comments. Ask a question and invite your readers to leave a comment. That’s not the end though. When someone does comment, comment back to them and encourage others to comment back to really good comments.

I’ve just started two additional blogs, one to feature an e-book I recently completed.
I’m basically implementing what you say here Cathy. For the most part I let the book cover in the side column be a reminder that I have a product for sale.
I’m still determining what my blog schedule will be, but I will blog regularly.
